Category:Children and misinformation
Appearance
Myths, hoaxes, scams and scares that reach young children, on the playground and online, and the claims made to parents about them. Many are harmless fun; some are used to frighten, manipulate or cheat children.
For parents and teachers, the pattern is worth knowing: playground myths spread because they are memorable and passed on by trusted friends, while online hoaxes spread because frightening warnings get shared faster than they get checked.
